The Cow and The Bull (1.6.15)

“The cow and the bull supply milk and meat to man.

The cow and the bull are sources of the cream and cheese,

                                                      of the curds and whey,

                                                      of progression from the milk to the meat.

The cow and the bull are not sacred unto God,

                                   are under the dominion of man,

                                   are for the contributions to the welfare of man,

                                   are the blessings of the truth in scheduling the growth and stature of man.

The cow and the bull should not be confused as symbols of idolatry,

                                   should not be kept aside by man beyond the butcher’s knife,

                                   should not be preserved to wander without man’s guidance and direction,

                                                                              where they are permitted to munch and browse as beset by inclination.

The cow and the bull are as bred by man,

                                   are as desired by man,

                                   are as resourced by man.

The cow and the bull are not as the scavengers of the earth,

                                   should neither be served up meat nor blood within their feed lines,

                                   should have the water clean and palatable,

                                   should have the impairments to good health addressed and rectified.

The cow and the bull should be safeguarded,

                                                so the purity of the pastured lands upholds the value and the worth,

                                                                                                                            when tendered for the table use of man.

The cow and the bull do not have wildness of the eye,

                                                                      as do the wild and the unruly running free.

The cow and the bull are comfortable in the company of man,

                                   are comfortable in being harnessed and put to work,

                                   are comfortable in the chewing of their cuds in a leisure time of rest.

The cow and the bull are not the best of parents,

                                   surrender their calves without a fight,

                                   express only middling concern when a call remains unanswered.

The cow and the bull come in many differing sizes,

                                             in many differing dispositions,

                                             in many differing ratios of milk to cream,

                                             in many differing colours of their hides.

The cow and the bull have progeny at the will of man,

                                   are supervised and examined,

                                   are selected and approved,

                                   are cared for and conditioned.

The cow and the bull mix easily with others,

                                   share enclosures at the will of others,

                                   put their backs to the wind when grazing,

                                   seek shelter in a storm.

The cow and the bull are meat makers approved by man,

                                   are milk producers for the use of man,

                                   are hide suppliers for the leathers of man.

The cow and the bull can extend the reach of man across the farmlands of the earth.

The cow and the bull have natures recognizing the command both of man and of his dogs.

The cow and the bull stand and build,

                                   furnish and keep,

                                   support and employ –

                                                   the aspirations of man in the endeavours available within the fields of God.

The cow and the bull are constrained within the will of man,

                                   are constrained for function,

                                   are constrained by performance,

                                   are constrained in freedom,

                                   are constrained by the ownership of man,

                                   are constrained by the buying and the selling and the records of achievement.”
