Rev 11:1 Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the angel stood, saying, "Rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there.
Divine Commentary –
“As John is asked to measure,
so the standards of God are to the fore,
as The Holy Spirit speaks,
is the body of the temple of God to walk according to the rod,
is the heart of the altar to be seen as shepherding the light for all who worship there.”
Rev 11:2 "But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months.
“But the courtyard outside the body of the temple of God is given over to be occupied by gentiles,
is not to be included for assessment.
For the gentiles are to desecrate the sacred with the secular,
the holy with the profane –
in their time of preparation:
for all which is laid up in the temple of The Lord.”
Rev 11:3 "And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.”
“As power is commanded so it is received.
As power is transferred so it enables.
As power is committed from on high so it anoints those on whom it falls –
even the very least of spirit and of soul –
to become all that God intends for the tasks required of man.
So are the prophets of The Lord to be selected;
so are they set to prophesy of preparation;
so are they to be clothed:
in humility of spirit,
So the Holy Spirit declared to the ears and eyes of John.”
Rev 11:4 These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands standing before the God of the earth.
“Then a voice from heaven again spoke to John –
to make known these two witnesses of God,
these two prophets of The Lord,
these two anointing servants of The Lamb,
these two light bearers of the word of God –
who are standing to confront the God of all idolatries;
of all iniquities;
of all deceptions;
of all blasphemies;
of all addictions;
of all depravities:
who nests upon the earth.”
Rev 11:5 And if anyone wants to harm them, fire proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies. And if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this manner.
“If anyone desires to harm them,
then fire –
the power of their testimony and the word of God –
comes forth from their mouths to devour their enemies.
As the strong of man –
the weak of God –
oppose the weak of man –
the strong of God:
so the voice of harm may win in a day of triumph yet lose to the voice of grace in the days of war.”
Rev 11:6 These have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls in the days of their prophecy; and they have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they desire.
“So authority as assigned by God is recognized by heaven,
so the effects of the prophetic tongue is felt upon the earth.”
Rev 11:7 When they finish their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit will make war against them, overcome them, and kill them.
“Beware of when a testimony ends,
is no longer borne before the world,
becomes of unimportance to the life within,
for as a testimony dies –
so the prince of darkness will strike,
so the prince of darkness will ascend up from the pit in bloodlust for his foe,
will seize his day of opportunity,
will rejoice in his day of triumph.”
Rev 11:8 And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
“So will they die through their lack of testimony,
So will they die as the fire from within their mouths is extinguished,
So will they die defenceless before the beast.
in the lands of the gentiles –
will they dwell,
killed by the beast,
with their spirits silenced.
in the streets of each city once seen as holy,
once captured at great cost,
once the scene of many temples of The Lord,
have they surrendered all to the prince of darkness,
have brought to nil the sacrifices of past servants of The Lord,
where there our Lord was crucified time after time –
without the defence of the testimony of man.”
Rev 11:9 Then those from the peoples, tribes, tongues, and nations will see their dead bodies three-and-a-half days, and not allow their dead bodies to be put into graves.
“So the dead bodies –
those with silent mouths –
will be among the peoples of the earth for a period:
in preparation for a regaining of their voices.
As the dead bodies are displayed before the eyes of the peoples –
so the dead bodies are seen not to qualify for putting into graves.”
Rev 11:10 And those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them, make merry, and send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth.
“So the satanic hordes make merry at the expense of man,
at those who go out two by two:
to speak of that which is anathema to the ears of all with Satan as their God –
all whose names by choice remain unknown in heaven –
all whose names by choice find no entry in The Lamb’s Book of Life.
For as their tongues confess,
so shall they receive in confirmation of their hearts.”
Rev 11:11 Now after the three-and-a-half days the breath of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet, and great fear fell on those who saw them.
“After the passing of the time of preparation for the regaining of their voices,
God brings life unto their voices,
and they again arise before the onlookers.
Great is the fear of those who see what once is dead –
yet stands to live again.”
Rev 11:12 And they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, "Come up here." And they ascended to heaven in a cloud, and their enemies saw them.
“As they are invited,
so they are departing,
so their enemies are observing,
so testimonies are born before the power of God.”
Rev 11:13 In the same hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell. In the earthquake seven thousand people were killed, and the rest were afraid and gave glory to the God of heaven.
“So the city has its foundations shaken,
has its structures of belief put to the test,
has one tenth of the city who worship the things of Satan so marked,
to be brought down to the earth –
so the seven thousand also suffer by keeping to their false beliefs.
The rest learn the fear of God within their spirits and their souls:
giving glory to the God of heaven as they forsake through their actions,
through their tongues –
the God of the earth.”
Rev 11:14 The second woe is past. Behold, the third woe is coming quickly.
“As wisdom is shown,
so should wisdom be acquired.
As knowledge is displayed,
so should knowledge be gained.
so should the actions of man reflect the impact of experience.”
Rev 11:15 Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!"
“As the seventh angel sounds,
so loud voices in heaven proclaim:
‘The kingdom of the prince of darkness becomes the kingdoms of The Lord,
of The Messiah –
He who shall reign for all eternity.’”
Rev 11:16 And the twenty-four elders who sat before God on their thrones fell on their faces and worshiped God,
“So the twenty four elders,
the great body of the saints of God,
the great body of believers within His church upon the earth,
so fall they on their faces –
in the praise and worship of our God.”
Rev 11:17 saying: "We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, The One who is and who was and who is to come, Because You have taken Your great power and reigned.
“So the saints of God declare before The Altar of The Lamb:
‘We give You thanks,
O Lord God,
The One who is and who was and who is soon to come,
for You come with Your great power to reign.’”
Rev 11:18 The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come, And the time of the dead, that they should be judged, And that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints, And those who fear Your name, small and great, And should destroy those who destroy the earth."
“So does John speak of his awareness of the expectations of the saints,
within the record of his vision of what is yet to be:
those things of fulfilment which must surely happen with the approaching of the advent reign of God,
with the end of time,
with the confirming reign of God,
with the sovereign reign of God,
with the acts of God when seated on His throne.”
Rev 11:19 Then the temple of God was opened in heaven, and the ark of His covenant was seen in His temple. And there were lightnings, noises, thunderings, an earthquake, and great hail.
“So the temples of God are opened on completion,
are opened after transition,
are opened for inspection where there,
in the place of highest honour,
resides the heart of man –
the ark which carried safely home the covenant with God.
So was the excitement of heaven,
the jubilation at each success,
so conveyed to John to be so described to man.”
