The Giants of The Earth (26.2.11)

“The sleeping of a giant does not mean he will not wake,

does not mean he sleeps forever,

does not mean his day of arousal is far off.

The arousal of a giant is precarious to man,

is not as a dumb-bell for the pitting of one’s strength,

is not as with a house where he can be sent to live.

The arousal of a giant has an impact on where he lingers,

                                    treads roughshod as he thunders,

treads tiptoe when he’s spent and fed.

The raising of a giant takes a lot of room,

sees the stretching of the boundaries with the flexing of his muscles,

sees things knocked off the shelf when he tries to enter,

sees a room attacked when he is thought to have packed and gone elsewhere.

The raising of a giant is always bred outside,

is always bred within a season,

is always bred without the help of man.

The raising of a giant cannot be stopped by man,

                                   cannot be slowed by man,

                                   cannot be skewed by man.

The taming of a giant is not possible by man:

he will not be a pet,

he will not be a friend,

he will not be considerate of man.

The being of a giant always is self-centred,

is without the constraint of man,

                                              has no return address,

shakes off his clothing of the day as he roars into the presence of man.

The being of a giant seeks out obscurity wherein he dwells,

travels as an express train which is heard yet is not caught,

lurks in anger long before he rears into the sight of man.

Beware the giants of the Earth which lie in wait for man.

Beware the footprint of man is not found on the footprint of a giant.

Beware the footprint of man is not found where the giant is sleeping.

Beware the giants of the Earth with the right to choose their hiding place.

Beware the giants of the Earth as they sally forth.

Beware the giants of the Earth as they bring destruction without a thought for man,

in their waving of the waters,

in their throwing up new lands,

in their twirling of the winds,

in their turning in their beds.

Beware the restless giant who often tosses all out from his bed.

For the wisdom of man should preclude his cohabiting with giants,

his establishing of his footprint where a much larger footprint already is,

his failure to plan for where the line is drawn,

for where he will not plant his roots,

for where he will not venture with his family –

                                                                                                                          into the giant’s domain.

Man’s pre-emptive presence of his being should nullify what he can,

                                                                              withdraw from what he can’t:

with the wisdom to know the difference.”
