The Misery of Man (5.12.11)

“The misery of man dwells within his soul as a captive of his foe,

as a captive of lost hope,

                                                             as a captive without faith.

The misery of man feeds on his self-pity,

feeds on past failures of his plans,

feeds on the blame seen as others.

The misery of man pre-empts his mastery of success,

                               pre-empts his willingness to strive,

pre-empts a sojourn in the sun.

The misery of man greets each day as he expects,

greets each day with a groan,

greets each day with a tear upon a heart.

The misery of man greets each day with his burden carried forward through the darkness of the night.

The misery of man greets each day with his troubles of the days gone by.

The misery of man greets each day with the anxieties he fears he will encounter.

The misery of man has no expectation of a rescue,

has no trust in offered help,

has no input from his spirit.

The misery of man knows a downward spiral.

The misery of man seeks solitude in silence,

seeks the passing of the day,

seeks the passing of the night.

The misery of man has no end within his sight.

The misery of man frequents the darkest depths of man,

frequents the depths from which it is difficult to return,

frequents the depths where there is but a glimmer of the sunlight.

The misery of man is tugged ever deeper by the foe,

is tugged ever deeper by the weight,

is tugged ever deeper by despair.

The misery of man is tugged ever deeper by the isolation of his soul.

The misery of man succumbs to a circle of entrapment,

succumbs to a loss of will,

succumbs to being in a fog.

The misery of man is being impaled on the pitchfork of the devil,

is being tossed to and fro as a sheaf of wheat,

is being thrashed until there is nothing left to shed.

The misery of man is a  nesting place of vermin,

is a  burrow with a snake,

is a  feeding place of vultures.

The misery of man is festooned in the cobwebs of a cave,

is imprisoned by a palm tree in the desert,

is selected by the demons as their playground of the day,

as their party place at night.

The misery of man is not a guest man should invite into his home.

The misery of man is broken by the cross,

                               is spent by the cross,

is healed by what happened on the cross.

The misery of man is brought to be by the fall of man.

The misery of man is shed under the fall of grace.

The misery of man is no longer under law.

The misery of man is now uplifted by commitment,

is now removed by acceptance of the offer of abounding grace,

is now dissolved as a cloud of shadows in the fullness of the sun.

The misery of man is a relic of a bygone age.

The misery of man serves up the works of Satan within the freewill of man.

The misery of man cannot survive the encounter with the cross when man calls out for attention under grace.”
