The Wherewithal of Man (22.8.09)

“The wherewithal of man everywhere abounds.

The wherewithal of man is there in excess of requirements.

The wherewithal of man feeds his eyes,

                                                  his ears,

                                                  his soul.

The wherewithal of man rarely feeds his spirit.

The wherewithal of man languishes where the unused have been last left.

The wherewithal of man can be garnered for recovery before the termites erode the worth.

The wherewithal of man can be farewelled in a fire sale of surrender.

The wherewithal of man can be farewelled in games of chance,

when no more can be tendered,

when the labourer is no longer paid.

The wherewithal of man can be farewelled when no longer valued within a home,

when effort is no longer counted,

when the surplus is so great that the cost is not remembered.

The wherewithal of man can be farewelled to greed,

                                        can be farewelled to selfishness,

can be farewelled to the gods of man.

The wherewithal of man can be spread upon a table,

can be spread to feed man’s spirit,

can be spread before the presence of the living God.

The wherewithal of man can be an offering that fills a hand.

The wherewithal of man can be a tithing for a storehouse.

The wherewithal of man can be an answered prayer.

The wherewithal of man brings poverty in its shadow,

                                        brings riches in its light.

The wherewithal of man is man’s plumb-line of success,

is man’s measure of his failure.

The wherewithal of man is a building block of character.

The wherewithal of man can vanish or accrue as snowfall upon the mountains so marks their height of majesty

The wherewithal of man can vanish or accrue depending on the height of man –

                                                                                                                        his goals,

                                                                                                                        his knowledge,

                                                                                                                        his wisdom –

all sought to be retained –

all bought to be retained –

                                                                                                                              all ought to be retained.

The wherewithal of man can vanish or accrue according to the season,

                                                                          according to location,

                                                                          according to the labourer’s intent.

As the wherewithal of man is used,

                                                          so shall man survive.

As the wherewithal of man is used,

so shall the character of man develop.

As the wherewithal of man is used,

so shall man decline or blossom.

As the wherewithal of man is used,

so shall life stagnate or proceed.

As the wherewithal of man is used,

so shall an account be rendered for the presence of the soul,

                                                                                                                   the presence of the spirit,

the presence of the body –

                                                                                                                                                        the residence –

                                                                                                                                                    unconverted to a temple.

The wherewithal of man may be multiplied or squandered.

The wherewithal of man may be set aside in wisdom or encounter an empty purse.

The wherewithal of man may be a blessing that uplifts,

                                                          or a curse that disparages,

                                                                the life of man.

The wherewithal of man stands or falls on the resultant character of man –

the character of man that has an eternal bearing on his relationship with God.”
